Gary Brown serves as the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Regional Coordinator for Region VII (IA, KS, MO, NE). He provides technical assistance and support to the existing MRC units in the region and helps people interested in the MRC program start a unit when there is not currently an active MRC in their local community. Gary works closely with individual units to advance the U.S. Surgeon General's public health priorities and coordinate with the goals of the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps.
Gary has been involved in emergency planning, operations, and training for more than 20 years. Prior to his current position, Gary operated a small consulting and professional services company specializing in emergency management and homeland security. He also served as the Emergency Services Manager for the Mid-America Regional Council in Kansas City and as the Senior Emergency Services Coordinator in Placer County, California. In addition, Gary served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force with assignments in intelligence and disaster preparedness.
Gary received a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Gary lives in Shawnee, Kansas with his wife and five children
